What makes you and your business newsworthy?

Though PR is not my bread and butter. However, I am often put to task (for my clients) to come up with press release content. Or rather ways to create newsworthiness for them.

Finding placement is not always the biggest challenge to press releases. Content is often the big question. So here are a few ideas for press releases that might work for you:

  • How is your business relevant to the economy? (are you thriving? is your product/service affordable? can you provide advice to others on a down economy?)
  • Partner with other businesses and pitch a ‘trend’ topic (three moms starting businesses, three NJ residents publish books, etc)
  • How-To Pitches - share your unique wisdom with the audience with industry ‘tips’
  • Interview release - include your credentials, brief background of your business, and a list of topics you can speak on for interviews and expert commentary
  • Opening a new business
  • Launching a new product/offering a new service
  • Expansion/growth
  • Award announcements
  • Promoting a special event
  • Announcing a Charity partnership
  • Announcing a business partnership
  • New website/blog
  • New name/logo/brand image
  • Staff promotion announcements
  • Joining an organization
  • Speaking at an event
  • Pitch national coverage to local publications (appearance on Good Morning America - pitch to your hometown paper)
  • New client announcements
The point is write them, there are tons of reasons why the public should hear about your business and what you have to offer. Getting in their face with press releases is a great way to increase your exposure.

Get to writing!
